Thank you for being adventurous enough to visit this newly budding website. Over time, it will grow, but for now, there's still plenty enough to ruminate on. So, take your time, look around. Then make sure to drop me a line.
For those wishing to take an adventurous first step into the Art of Householding, educational getaways will soon be offered in the heart of historic St. Louis where the host of this website lives. By the summer of 2023, I will have a detached guest house up and running (converted from an old brick horse stable) available for individuals, couples, or families interested in seeing what life is like on the ground with a seasoned urban householder. My urban property features a rooftop container vegetable garden with a view of the Gateway Arch, a mostly restored first floor with original woodwork and pocket doors, an un-rehabbed second floor that can serve as a workshop for home restoration skills, and a soap making room. Within a 9-block radius lie some of the most beautifully restored homes in the Midwest and scores of restaurants including McGurk’s lively Irish pub and the Square One Brewery, the nearest outlet for hand-crafted beers. Within a short bike ride lie hundreds of other restaurants, several other microbreweries, Union Station, Busch Stadium, the new major league soccer stadium, the Blues hockey arena, the St. Louis “Wheel” (a giant Ferris Wheel) and the St. Louis Aquarium, as well as the fabled Arch. To experience it all from the bicyclist's eye view, I can loan wheels from my diverse collection of pedal-powered jalopies, including standard bicycles, recumbents, a tandem, a folding bike, a pedicab, and a small electric car/bicycle hybrid. As a visitor here, you are guaranteed to enter into a fantastic experience of what life might be like beyond the electronic screen or the automobile's windshield. As this website grows and evolves, it will also serve as a link to a larger community with which you can become more involved. Please also turn to the "About" page for an introduction, and to "Poor Eric's Almanac of Sayings" for helpful hints. (Start from the bottom of the blog so you get them in chronological order).
I look forward to hearing from you.
